Quayaquil, a port city, is the largest in Ecuador. Although portions of the city can be dangerous, the Malecon area and Santa Anna Hill are well policed and a feast for the eyes. Mansion del Rio, a beautifully restored hotel in the historic district is a Mecca for travelers.
